Child Support

Child support is determined by the Kentucky statute containing Child Support Guidelines. These guidelines may be adjusted based on a child’s medical, dental or educational needs that go beyond ordinary expenses as well as other circumstances that are exceptions to the Kentucky guidelines, such as a parents excessive medical needs, independent financial resources of a child, and combined parental income greater than amounts covered by the guidelines. A child support agreement between the parents or other extraordinary circumstances may also affect the calculation of child support.

Both parents may be required to pay child support depending on their situation. Arriving at a child support payment that will be upheld by the courts involves consideration of a number of complexities. Seeking legal guidance can make the determination much easier than trying to calculate child support without legal help.
